STUDENTS OBSERVE A painting while a curator gives insight on it.

MOCA’s latest exhibit

October 24, 2016

Art students were loaded onto buses last Friday for a field trip to the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) for a “hands-on” learning experience about surrealism.

The current MOCA exhibition is “Turn the Page: The First Ten Years of Hi-Fructose”,  which includes works from the past ten years of the magazine “High Fructose”, a contemporary art magazine. More than 50 different artists came together to make up the gallery’s exhibit.

The museum staff led a guided tour and hosted an activity for students that related to the idea of surrealism. Students were encouraged to gain inspiration from the paintings and sculptures to further there own creativity in the classroom.

Art teacher Ms. Szymanski organized and led the field trip, giving insight on many of the paintings, as well as encouraging the students to find their own meaning in the art.

“”Its amazing how many students haven’t been to a museum before; the purpose of the trip to MOCA was so the students could see the actual Art up close and make educated observations of its content,” Syzmanski said. “The current exhibit features contemporary artists with surrealistic themes that are engaging and relatable.”
